Beginning in 2023, our research team set out to conduct the largest ever study of Black Canadians in politics. We launched the first ever survey of Black Canadian candidates and officeholders and conducted more than 30 in-depth interviews. We asked respondents about what it is like to run for office, their motivations for doing so, the sources of encouragement and discouragement that they received, and the challenges they faced. In 2025, we will publish a report on our findings.
